I am a self taught book binder, sign painter, and zine publisher among many other things. I make books from recycled/salvaged materials sourced from Detroit mainly but also from traveling. I make rice glue and hand collate every page, as well as cut every cover and spine. I have been binding for about 10 years. I staple, stitch, and glue my books for maximum durability/longevity. No two books are alike but there are well over a thousand floating around the country. I do one to two runs a year, but generally one. I started hand signing and numbering them this year. I try to travel and open consignments in other states/cities whenever possible but I also like to vend events. I find vending more rewarding as an artist. The whole reason I like to make books is that I can imagine (and sometimes get to see) what people are writing or drawing in them later. In this way I can add to peoples creativity and my own at the same time.
