Birdie’s Bookmobile wants your books and is accepting donations!
Birdie’s Bookmobile is dedicated to eliminating book deserts and making books more accessible. Their mission is to help families build print-rich home environments, improve literacy outcomes, and grow lifelong readers.
Birdie’s Bookmobile Detroit
Since launching in June 2022, Birdie’s Bookmobile has gifted more than 5,000 books to 1,200 children in Detroit. Your book donations will help build home libraries, promote shared reading experiences between parent and child, and impact generations.
Birdie’s is run by Detroit’s own Alyce Hartman. She is the Founder and CEO of Nesting Birds Publishing, the director of collective learning at 313Reads, and the former Director of Education at MACC Development.

Where will Birdie’s Bookmobile be located during Bookfest?
Birdie’s Bookmobile will be located outside Eastern Market’s Shed 5 in the DTE Plaza.
This is the main plaza on the west side of the building facing Russell Street at Alfred Street.
